Baltimore was the city where I first came to study and live in the United States. I stayed here for two years. The unfamiliar foreign environment from every perspective and the locally notorious crime rate kept me in a constant state of heightened nerves, plagued by recurring nightmares throughout the night. In reality, Baltimore is a sunny and beautiful harbor city, with its historic architecture and urban greenery. However, in most cases, I couldn't venture out alone with my camera, even for a leisurely walk around the neighborhood, as it was accompanied by vigilance and fear.

The place I frequented the most was the Baltimore Zoo. It was a historically rich zoo with many abandoned iron cages that once housed large animals, blending seamlessly with the natural surroundings. In my bad dreams, I experience various approaches of death, and these iron cages seem to be my sanctuary. This city resembled a zoo, where many rules were discarded, appearing more like an untamed world. Yet, the sunlight in my dreams still pervaded, blinding me with no escape.
